Approved Inspector Reversions

July 1, 2019

Some Approved Inspectors have recently been unable to obtain the required insurance cover, you can check the status of insurance for any Approved Inspector by following this link to the CICAIR website – https://www.cicair.org.uk/

What does this mean to you?

Without insurance an Approved Inspector is unable to carry out their building control functions with regards to the administration or inspection of building work.

What do I do about my Initial Notice?

The Approved Inspector and/or person carrying out the work should cancel their initial notice.  Download

How do I continue with my building project?

Where work has started and the Approved Inspector is unable to carry out their building control function, the work would then ‘revert’ to Local Authority Building Control by virtue of Section 53 of the 1984 Building Act and Section 19 of The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2010.
