Inspection protocol during November 2020 Covid 19 Lockdown

November 4, 2020

CNC Building Control remains open and undertaking inspections during the Coronavirus Pandemic and the November Government Lockdown.

Procedure when booking an inspection

At the time of booking homeowners/contractors will be asked to confirm that there is no one on site who is self-isolating due to COVID 19 symptoms or is shielding or in a vulnerable group.

Inspections will only be booked if the inspection is safe to do so both for surveying staff, homeowners and contractors.

Site inspection safety procedures

On the day of the inspection, the surveyor will

a) call the site in advance to give an estimated time of arrival and to check the site is prepared for the inspection,

b) confirm that there is no one on site who is self-isolating due to COVID-19 symptoms or is shielding/in a vulnerable group and

c) record that the site contact/customer has been made aware of the protocol requirements.

Wherever possible, the surveyor will conduct their inspection from outside the building.  They will only enter an occupied building if necessary to carry the inspection and for as shorter time as possible.

During these internal occupied inspections the surveyor will require

  • the building to be vacated
  • all windows are opened
  • all means of access (ie doors) are left open
  • face coverings will be worn by the surveyor during these internal visits and any other persons entering the building at the same time as the surveyor will also be asked also to wear a face covering

If visiting an HMO, public building or commercial premises the surveyor will check the buildings COVID-19 Secure Certificate and make themselves aware of any specific COVID secure requirements and adhere to them.
