Airtightness (2 hour presentation by DuPont and Parsons & Whittley)

This seminar include two presentations; one from DuPont and one from Parsons & Whittley.

DuPont's presentation was on Tyvek® Roof and wall systems. The presentation (excluding videos) can be download here.

Parsons & Whittley's presentation was on the importance and detailing of airtightness led by Chris Parson (certified passive House consultant). 

Changes to Building Regulations

CNC and Alan Osborne held a seminar covering information on the 'Changes to Building Regulations'. This Seminar featured a presentation from Alan Osborne and included: 
  • information on the recent Housing Standards Review
  • the consultation paper on revisions to Approve Documents and proposed new Approved Documents
  • an overview of implications regarding the requirement for all new dwellings to be zero carbon by 2016
  • feedback on the Governments current position on Allowable Solutions
  • a Q&A session with Alan Osborne

Specialist Fire Solutions Summit

CNC, Hyfire, Wagner and Detector Testers held a seminar on 'Specialist Fire Solutions Summit'.

The seminar featured a presentation from Hyfire covering:

  • the latest changes in the standards covering wireless fire detection systems (EN54:25 and BS5839:1). 
  • how new technologies are helping to meet these demands with flexible and affordable solutions.

A presentation from Wagner answered questions surrounding air sampling systems and covered:

  • the important changes to EN54-20
  • considerations when designing a system
  • challenging environments where air sampling systems are now being installed.

The presentation from Detector Testers looked at industry standard solutions that will provide quick and easy testing to overcome problems.

Space Saving Insulation: Insulation systems for difficult to insulate building

CNC and Web Dynamic Ltd. ran a seminar on 'Space Saving Insulation: Insulation systems for difficult to insulate building'.

The seminar featured information on:

Ahead of the Approved Document Part L update 2014 being introduced we ran seminars covering: 

  • Review of the recent changes to the building regulations during 2013
  • Changes to Approved Document L
  • Implications of the changes to a notional building in relation to SAP and SBEM calculations
  • Transitional arrangements for approved Document L change

Source Control Systems on Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems


Source Control Systems Ltd is a leading manufacture of specialised grass protection and gravel reinforcement grid systems in the UK. This is supplemented by a range of infiltration and attenuation crates for surface water as well as rainwater harvesting hydrocarbon removal systems. They work with a wide customer base to provide technical advice and product soltuions to both professions and members of the public.

This CPD seminar followed the flow of water through the following products:

  • Gravel retention and grass reinforcement systems
  • Underground crates with vertical and laternal loadings
  • Traditional rainwater harvesting systems
  • Smart sponge hydrocarbon removal system


 Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction - Recommendations


CNC recently held a free seminar on ‘Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction’ delivered by Stephen Chesney-Beales (Conservation Officer – Arboriculture & Landscape) of Broadland District Council.  He commented, “Buildings need to be designed and constructed to accommodate the current and potential future influence of existing and removed vegetation, as well as planned new planting."
